THE POETRY LAB PRESENTS

6-Weeks to Get Grounded
Sunday, July 12 - August 16

8:00am PT - 9:00am PT
via Zoom

Creative work does not happen separately from the body. It happens through it.

Yoga for Creativity is a six-week embodied creativity course designed to help writers and artists reconnect with themselves through movement, breath, reflection, and creative practice. Combining accessible yoga, guided creative exercises, and reflective journaling, this course invites participants to slow down, listen inward, and build a more sustainable relationship to their creative lives.

Together, we’ll explore how embodiment can deepen emotional range, restore creative clarity, support vulnerability, and interrupt cycles of burnout and disconnection. Each session focuses on a different aspect of the creative process, including balance, release, rest, creative energy, and self-trust, offering participants practical tools they can continue using long after the course ends.

Yoga for Creativity is open to writers, artists, and creators of all disciplines and experience levels.

No yoga experience is required. Just bring your body, your curiosity, and a willingness to explore creativity from a new angle.

By the end of this course, participants will:

Develop a more grounded, body-aware creative practice

Explore the relationship between movement, emotion, and creativity

Build sustainable creative rhythms instead of burnout cycles

Identify and gently release creative blocks held in the body

Learn ways to integrate embodiment into writing, artmaking, and other creative disciplines

Leave with practical tools for returning to the creative process with greater clarity, presence, and self-trust

Curious what Lori’s teaching style feels like before class begins?

Listen to her guided yoga and creativity session on The Poetry Lab Podcast, where she explores embodiment, creative rhythm, and the connection between movement and the writing life. It’s a gentle introduction to the grounding, reflective approach at the heart of this course.

Lab Partner Membership
$35.00 every month

Lab Partners is The Poetry Lab’s membership program for writers who want to stay connected to a consistent creative practice throughout the year. More than a discount program, Lab Partners is designed to support the long arc of a writing life through accessible workshops, deeper educational opportunities, and an ongoing sense of community.

As a Lab Partner, you’ll receive:

  • Free enrollment in our monthly BrainTrust generative workshops

  • Reduced enrollment rates across many of our courses and programs (Enroll as a Member!)

  • Significant savings on premium offerings like the Feedback Circle

  • Access to exclusive member communications, opportunities, and announcements

  • A direct way to stay engaged with The Poetry Lab’s evolving educational ecosystem year-round

Lab Partners is ideal for writers who know they want to keep showing up to the page, whether through monthly workshops, multi-week courses, critique spaces, or independent creative practice.

Membership also directly supports our mission to keep poetry education accessible through sliding-scale programming, financial aid opportunities, and sustainable compensation for teaching artists. There’s no minimum committment. You can cancel anytime.

This is not just a membership. A writing life. 🌿

Why Become a Member?

Your course enrollment gives you four weeks of creative momentum. Membership helps you sustain it.

When you become a Lab Partner Member alongside your course registration, you also unlock automatic access to The BrainTrust, our monthly live generative writing workshop built to keep your creative practice active year-round. Each BrainTrust session is a standalone creative experience centered on a unique craft theme, poetic technique, or experimental prompt structure designed to help writers generate fresh work in an energized, low-pressure environment.

In other words: the course gives you depth. Membership gives you continuity.

Many students leave a class energized and inspired, only to struggle maintaining momentum afterward. The BrainTrust helps bridge that gap by giving you a consistent creative space to return to each month alongside a community of serious, curious writers who are actively making new work too.

If you’re already investing in your writing practice through a course, membership helps turn that momentum into an ongoing creative rhythm instead of a one-time experience.

Plus! As a Member, you’ll save $50 off every course and $70 off of The Feedback Circle!

Membership is month-to-month with no long-term commitment, and you can cancel anytime directly through your account settings.

Class begins Sunday, July 12
and continues July 19, July 26, August 2, August 9, and August 16

All sessions are live via Zoom from 8:00am PT - 9:00am PT

What’s It Like in Class?

This is not a passive Zoom seminar or a pre-recorded lecture. Our classes are live, interactive, and community-centered, with a real instructor and real writers gathering together each week to create, discuss, and explore poetry in real time.

Students are encouraged to ask questions, participate in discussion, share work, and engage with the material at whatever level feels comfortable to them. The atmosphere is supportive, thoughtful, and creatively energized. You do not need to have all the answers before arriving. You just need curiosity, openness, and a willingness to write.

Lori Walker is a freelance writer and editor.

She writes personal essays in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she lives with her husband and cat, Joan Didion. Through her work with The Poetry Lab Podcast, Lori has become known for her thoughtful, grounding approach to creativity, encouraging writers to build sustainable practices rooted in self-trust rather than pressure, perfectionism, or hustle culture.

Her episodes often explore the relationship between embodiment, emotional care, and artistic practice, with topics ranging from creative burnout and seasonal creative rhythms to self-care, vulnerability, yoga, and learning to trust your own voice on the page. Lori believes creativity flourishes when writers feel connected to their bodies, emotions, and inner rhythms, rather than disconnected from them.

In her Yoga for Creative Writers work, Lori combines gentle movement, mindfulness, and reflective writing practices to help writers reconnect with themselves creatively and physically. Her teaching style is calm, welcoming, and deeply encouraging, making space for writers of all experience levels to slow down, breathe, and return to the work with more clarity and care.

This is the creative reset your body and mind have been asking for.
